Frequently
Asked
Questions

  • Please see Our Services for details about what we offer and what is included in each type of appointment.

  • Lactation and Infant Feeding Team: plan for your appointment to last approximately 1 hour. With twins, appointments are approximately 2 hours.

Pumping Consultations: plan for your appointment to last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

Nutrition and Feeding Support for Older Infants: plan for your appointment to last approximately 40 minutes.

  • An initial visit to our Lactation and Infant Feeding Team Clinic has no out-of-pocket fees if OHIP covers both you and your baby. The doctor is covered by OHIP, as usual, and Kindercare Pediatrics subsidizes the cost of the lactation consultant.

All of your appointments in the Nutrition and Feeding Support for Older Infants Clinic have no out-of-pocket fees if your child is covered by OHIP.

If you or your baby do not have OHIP, please contact us.

A follow-up appointment in our Lactation and Infant Feeding Team Clinic is $50, or $100 for twins.

    A pumping consultation is $80.

If our fees make it difficult for you to see us, please contact us.

  • For a first appointment in our Lactation and Infant Feeding Team Clinic or our Nutrition and Feeding Support for Older Infants Clinic, you will need a referral from a doctor, midwife, or nurse practitioner in your baby’s name. Once the referral is received, an administrator will contact you to schedule an appointment.

After your first visit, you can book a follow-up appointment by contacting us. An additional referral is not required unless 1 year has passed from the time the first referral was made.

A referral is not required for pumping consultations. Please contact us to schedule an appointment.

  • Lactation and Infant Feeding Team: Please bring your baby and anything that you need to feed your baby. This may include bottles, expressed breast milk and /or formula, nipple shield, etc.

We have breastfeeding pillows available to use.

If you are considering a tongue tie release, please also bring a blanket, that can be used to swaddle your baby.

Ideally, your baby should also be ready to feed during the appointment. We know that this is not always easy to plan and we do not suggest withholding food from your baby if they are very hungry. Try to avoid feeding your baby in the hour before your appointment, if possible.

Pumping consultations: Please bring your breast pump, including all the necessary parts (tubing, connectors, bottles, electric cord, etc). When booking your appointment, please let us know which pump you are using.

You do not need to bring your baby to the appointment, but they are always welcome.

Nutrition and Feeding Support for Older Infants: Please bring your child to the appointment. If there is anything else we need you to bring, we will let you know ahead of your appointment.
